Summary
Wineries producing up to but no more than 250,000 gallons annually are required to have a direct-to-consumer shipping permit. Wineries producing more than 250,000 gallons annually are prohibited from shipping to Ohio consumers. Wineries must have an approved S permit, pay state and local sales tax, pay excise tax and submit an annual shipping report to the Division of Liquor Control. Beginning 9/1/08 direct shippers must register brands and a $50.00 brand registration fee. In addition, direct shippers must register as a supplier and pay a $100 application fee. S permit holders do not have to pay the $300 supplier license fee. The Ohio Department of Taxation will register your business by telephone. Call 1-888-405-4089 and press #1 after the message. Applicants may also register by submitting form UT-1000. A Family Household may receive up to 24 cases annually from all wineries combined.
